Hey everyone, I got my Marti Report today (www.martiauto.com). What's a Marti Report, you may ask? It's a detailed report on the history of your car. It gives you information such as which options your car was ordered with, when the order was placed, when the car was made, which dealer it was delivered to and sold from, etc..etc..etc.. This is very cool because my car is now 29 years old (an oldie but a goodie) and trying to find out history on it is very cool.
For an extra fee, I also had them reproduce the door data plate (sticker on driver's door). I had scraped mine off when I was preparing the car for paint and I have regretted it ever since. Well, they were able to reproduce an EXACT copy of the one that I originally had!
These reports may not mean much to you guys yet, but they will in the future. At this time, Marti Auto can only reproduce the information from 1967 to 1979. This is the first year for the 1979's and they've only begun with that information within the past couple of months. Next year, they hope to gain the 1980 information from FORD. They are the only company in the World that can reproduce the FORD authorized information that's based in these reports. It's significant that the '79's are now included because they were the first year for the Fox Bodied Mustangs. So, for you fox body owners out there, be aware that these reports will soon be available to you!
Well, ya never know. In 1979, FORD made 370,000 Mustangs (the most ever in one year!) Out of that number 17,579 were Cobras. Over the past 29 years, a lot of them have bitten the dust. I'm sure when they get the marti reports for your's ready, there'll be some nice information there regarding your car too.
yeah hopefully, ive been told the original color it was, dark emerald green, was rare for the model year, and many of the 5.0's have been beat up and junked. so when people tell me, "oh theres a million 5.0s out there" how many look like yours? not many. you have one sweet early cobra. it will appreciate in value in the years to come.
Yeah, sometimes I cringe because I changed the entire drivetrain and the colors. However, I knew that I would never like the weezing 131 horsepower of the Turbo 4-cylinder. I'm also not too sure that a stock one would ever sell for more money than a modified one. There's plenty of modified cars out there that bring good money. That decision will never affect me though, as I never plan to sell it.
nice man, yeah it sucks how ford threw away all 64-66 mustang shit to make way for the new IBM computers cuz i also have a 66! i never knew your car was originally a 4!?! anyhow nice car, nice documentation!
Thanks guys. I also just looked through my owner's manual and the original owner's name and address is typed onto a sticker that was stuck to the inside cover. I looked it up on whitepages.com and he's listed in the book, with the same address! I called and left a message with a woman at the number that was listed and she said that she would pass the word onto him.
I'd just like to talk to him about what it was like to buy it when it was brand new, see if he has any documentation (like the window sticker) or even pictures of it when it was new. I won't stalk him for the information, so if he chooses to not talk, then I'll respect that. I hope he opens up though. We'll see!
