I like them both but right now they are far beyond my reach . What can i do for a 97 cobra eng that would wake it up a little more ? Ive thought of the mist system from that company cooler that has a water methanol mix to lower the ambient temp in a intake to allow more boost and cooler temps for your car seems like a good idea. anything else anyone knows would be greatly appreciated.
Gears are a must, 4.10 and up if you plan of keeping it n/a. You won't get more power, but it will pull harder. You could do a JLT ram air or cold air intake setup, but you won't see huge increases. I would do gears, exhaust and save for a power adder or get some ported heads/intake and a cam combo for n/a power. That would be easier on your motor than a power adder.
Fully ported heads and a fully ported intake with the right cam combo would really wake it up. You would be in the 11's with the rest of the car setup right and then 10's on nitrous. FR500 cams/intake are nice for n/a power, but all totalled its over $5000 in parts alone. A cheaper way is fully ported C heads, much better than your B heads, and a fully ported intake to match. Some cheap, but effective, cams would be 98 cobra intake and 04 mach 1 exhaust. By the time you are done with that though you could have bought a used D1 kit complete.
I an agree on those mods but its compared to a 5.0 mod list
Meth- don't really need it unless your blown or turbo'd.
You have the TEKSID block so it can handle some good power. Only thing holding you back is the hypertek pistons which are junk. They can handle no more then 430ish before being maxed out. Your heads are just fine. All aftermarket heads are stock ones port and polished. SO just spend the money on that and have that done to yours.
DO NOT COMPARE MODS TO A 5.0 MOTOR!!! Completely different on all standards. Mod motors can put a lot more with less. A built motor will cost you around 7-8k but you will have that taken care of.
One big problem with the 96-98 4valves in the intake manifold. They restrict a lot of air flow to the motor.
For cams (it has 4 for the people who don't know) your gonna spend close to 800. The best on the 4v or even the mod motors is the Anderson Cams. Thats what I will be running.
Exhaust, spend the money and go good. Bassani has a great sound on 4valves. I had it on my 01cobra. They also make the only true x-pipe. All else are pretty much fancy h-pipes.
Intake- JLT RAI. Cheapest and best on the market. I recommend to all. Most others who use chrome or metal just absorb the heat and make the air hot. Only plastic intakes are good. All use a K&N filter too. Just different colors.
Tuner: pick up a SCT XCAL2 or 3. With basic bolt-ons, it will def help your throttle response and get the power to the ground.
Gears- depends on what driving you want to do. The extra 1000rpm's you have does help but with it having a T-45, it restricts alot. I say 3:73's. Wont hurt anything and feel great. I actually liked them more then the 4:10's I had in the cobra before.
Ignition- The stock coils are fine. They make MSD coil packs but i have never seen any power from them. A good cold plug like NGK Tr6's will be great. Some good 8mm wires will help alot with your throttle. JBA or MSD are great!
Waste mods- Pulleys and Throttle body's are the 2 WORST mods on a mod motor. Its just for looks. You wont gain anything from them. Trust me!!
How much power do you want to make or do you have a specific 1/4 miles time you want to run? That would determine your best route. The best guy around when it comes to mod motors is Bob @ CE Racing in Milford. He may be able to help you out too.
i really dont know what i want for power just that i want more. i want a power capable 1000 and thats no joke im dead serious but that takes time and $ like anything else so i guess i want the right combo to make that happen.
for that kind of power then you want a turbo and don't regear the car, if it has the stock 3.27's then leave them in. Save your money and get the C heads and intake off an 99+ cobra and have the lower end forged. Best turbo kits are Hellion for single or twin and HPP Performance in Texas for twins, not sure if they do a single. STAY AWAY from HP Peformance in New Mexico, horrible customer service, Nathan is a flat out liar, parts quality sucks and it takes about 6 months to get it all then you have to send some back because they didn't send you the right parts. Their kits make some good power though if you get lucky enough to get one that fits.
1000?? Kinda alot. Mine is up to 800 and i'm only at 560 with about 20+k invested into it. A normal built motor will handle just fine. Bob will let ya know. (Owner of CE Racing)
The hellion kit is good. They use a turbonetics turbo though. You can upgrade which turbo you want too. Depends on the power you want.
I agree on avoiding HP Performance in New Mex. I ordered a kit from them for my 95 in mid november and still dont have what I need to get it done. After waiting 5 months for everything, i ended up getting a bunch of wrong parts and had parts missing. Just some advice, stay clear of them.
You were the guy locally I was thinking of. You are one of the many who has been screwed over by HP. There is an old thread on turbomustangs.com about Nathan and his scumbag crew getting sued by a customer who went through the BS you are for over a year!!!! Not sure what happened with it though. You learned a hard lesson unfortunately. Their kits do make great power when they actually send you the right parts that fit correctly. I guess its a bright side to your situation. I can only imagine how many lies Nathan has told you and will tell you.
I try not to talk to him anymore but I sometimes have to. But yes he has told me way too many lies and its fucking bullshit. I wish I got some feedback about this shit before I ordered the kit. How do you know about nathan and all the bullshit with them? Did you go through the same shit or something?
The word has been out on them for a long time. Check out www.svtperformance.com and www.turbomustangs.com. There is plenty of info about them on there. I would never deal with them now. Too many people have had the same experience you have for it all to be internet rumors and heresay. Its sucks because the mustang ad mags like MM&FF promote them not realize that they fuck over their customers like yourself on a regular basis.
Honestly man see if you can get a refund and return it all. I know it sucks, but if you go with a HPP in Texas for twins you won't have issues and you will probably have it faster than it will take HP to fix their fuck ups. Manny over there has an excellent reputation and the feedback from his customers is very good. My buddy was gonna do twins either thru them or Hellion, but instead a single was more cost effective to get him what he wants. I don't think Hellion does a kit for your car, but HPP might.
Before my buddy got his Hellion he had talked to HP. He said he would give them a deposit of $1000 and when the kit was completed and he had it in writing that it was complete, correct and ready to ship he would pay the balance. They refused. He ordered the Hellion a couple months later. Its too bad cuz HP kits work well when you finally get the right parts and get it all to fit properly.
Ya i checked out HPP and didnt see much shit. Do they make all the kits custom? I wasnt before but now im seriously considering returning my kit and getting something else. The one that I want the most is the Cartech street dominator twin kit. Heard anything about them or that kit?
Cartech is still around? I think thats the same company that used to be around when Incon was still in business back in the late 90's early 2000's. I don't know about them. I don't know if HPP has to be custom or not, I have seen guys nationwide with their kits though. I would imagine if they have done the car before then they would be able to have it ready w/o your car. Best thing to do is call them and ask. I know Hellion, HP and THP don't need your car to make the kit so I bet HPP doesn't either. HPP puts their turbos in the engine bay up top so you can see them. Some guys don't like that and want them behind the bumper.
Another place to check out is B&G, he has a great rep on turbomustangs.com. I think downtime is about 12 weeks though for your kit. The best thing to do is check out turbomustangs.com and search out each company and look for feedback, they actually have a feedback forum on the site. Also check out svtperformance too because there are a lot of turbo guys out there with variuos kits.
Then of course there is always have someone local make you a kit. I know Gaunt's Performance in Agawam does them and I think Ocean State in RI does them too.
